Located near Barney's Rock, which is named after a whaler who used to use it as a lookout back in the 1800's.
In 1993/94 I worked a summer season as a SCUBA instructor / dolphin swimming guide in Kaikoura. We used to run regular "dive with the seals" trips to Barneys Rock, the large rock just off the shore to the north of this cache site, as well as taking people swimming with the dolphins out in the bay.
I have placed this cache to mark my connection with the area.
Contains all the usual stuff.
My parents (wjbwc) and uncle (Satchimo Cat) live closer to this location than I and will help me maintain this cache.
You will note that there is a bit of rubbish around the cache site. I toyed with not placing it, but instead decided that it was pertinant to point out the unwanted effects that ecotourism can have. Please practice CITO in order to help clean up this area.
