COG2 # 5 - BARE BUTT MOUNTAIN Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Buttdraggin'Trails: We are so sorry everyone. This cache has been alive and kicking (most of the time) for 14 years. Buttdraggin'trails Gang were a bit younger then and could climb that hill, and trek those trails. Like our other very popular cache (virtual) On Top Of The Arch - it proved to be a favorite. We wish at our age - all caches could be virtual. Haha! A good climb with a good view.

Alas - this one has played itself out and we have moved on. Like you do! Well done to all who found this cache, and we find ourselves rather surprised it lasted this long. It only got vandalized once!! You can still follow the co-ords and do the climb. There is nothing to stop you. You just can't log it!

Check out our other cache's that are still going strong. Hopefully they will be around for a while. Enjoy & Cheers! #

This cache is at the East Coulson Reserve set within the forested hills of the Oro Moraine, the 82-acre East Coulson Swamp and Nature Reserve that protects vital upland forest and wetland habitats, as well as headwaters of the Coldwater River. The old concession road is for public access. We spoke to Ron Reid of the Conservation Authority and he advised us that the East Coulson Swamp IS for public use. The old “No trespassing” signs were left there by the conservation authority hoping to deter dirt bikers from tearing up the terrain. The cache itself is in the Simcoe County Forest area, but you can use the old concession road to get there. This area is still used by numerous Snowmobiler’s, ATV’ers, and Dirt Bike Racers, therefore we put a note in the bottom of the container to those possible geomugglers to not remove the “container” should they "crash" or "stumble" upon it!!

The property was donated to the Nature Conservancy of Canada in 2002 by author Margaret Atwood, and The Couchiching Conservancy signed a stewardship agreement in 2003. The forests provide interior habitat for such birds as scarlet tanagers, wood thrushes, and black-throated green warblers, and red-shouldered hawks, a threatened species, are regular nesters in the area. A County forest immediately to the north, and ongoing stewardship work with nearby landowners, helps to protect a large block of forest habitat around this Reserve.

THIS IS A YEAR ROUND CACHE.
