Geocache Description:

This journey is part of a cache series commemorating the travels of Leatherman in the late 1800s.

Leatherman once roamed SW Connecticut and SE New York from 1858 to 1889. He traveled a 365-mile loop between the Connecticut and Hudson rivers. Approximately every month he would repeat his journey. The man spoke primarily with grunts or gestures and dressed in crudely stitched leather from his hat to his shoes. The suit was made of soft-tanned calfskin leather and weighed about sixty pounds. He would sleep outside y.ear-round mostly in caves around Connecticut and New York. More information on Leatherman can be found at this site. (visit link)

Parking for this cache is a pull off on Judd's Bridge Road
N41 34.913 W073 20.121. This whole area is just amazing. Enjoy the drive along the Shepaug. If you're into white water kayaking, this a must do.

This is a very rugged area. I do not recommend doing this cache in inclement weather or if there is snow or ice or with young children. It is a short climb from the parking area to the cache but you may want to leave the dogs in the car as well. Leaves accumulate in crevices. Please be careful where you put your feet.

Having said all that, if you have the time and are into areas like this take time to explore and if you are a rock climber, bring your rope or at least checkout the boulder at the bottom.

The "cave" is not really a cave, but more like the type of shelter the leatherman sought out. It's really just a large overhang protected from the weather. Possibly Gameliel's Den, but not sure. Very cool place nonetheless.

I realize that there are about a hundred places I could have put this cache so I hope the hint will put you in the right spot if you are having trouble. Depending on which approach you take you could come across the cache before you get to the cave. If so climb up a little further to the "cave", it's worth it. Imagine spending the night here in all kinds of weather, and check out the view. Cache is a rubbermaid container soon to be replaced by an ammo can.

Dustiano's work clothes attribute in picture for anyone who was wondering.
