BACKGROUND:

As a former band director, I feel the need to continue educating others about music. I will use this series of caches to share information about some of my favorite composers. Enjoy!

THE CACHE:

To determine the correct coordinates leading to the cache container, you must first explore the life and works of Gustav Mahler (goos´taf    ma´lr) by answering the following questions:

1. Gustav Mahler was born into a Jewish family in Kalischt, Bohemia, the second of twelve children. In what year was he born?
   • If 1850, then A = 2

2. How many symphonies did Gustav Mahler complete during his lifetime?

3. Mahler’s “Symphony No. 1 in D major,” originally a tone poem called “Titan” (after a novel by Jean Paul), was written between 1884 and 1888. The symphony is approximately 55 minutes long.
