Geocache Description:

After the clean-up there will be a picnic at Good Dog's house - rain or shine. Please bring a change of shoes in case it's muddy.

1. First crew back at the starting point will run over to my house to get the Mt. Dew on ice. There may also be Maine lobsters.

2. Mrs. Good Dog and I will supply Hawaiian Brats and hamburg and fixings and all the paper products.

3. The pop and water will be from the spring picnic. We'll probably make iced tea and lemonade also.

4. Someone bring a watermelon or other cold fruit type desert.

5. BYO beer. You MUST be at least 21 to drink alcohol. I'll check ID's if necessary.

6. If you want to drop anything off, I'll send you coords. It's only about two miles.

7. If there are lots of people coming, we may car pool from the Legion parking lot.

Please post the number in your group so we can get the food order right.

This will be the 2nd out of 4 clean ups for our 3rd consecutive year of maintaining this section of Adopt-A-Highway.  We'll start at 10:00am. This should only take 2 hours or less and afterwards people can break away, go grab a bite to eat with others or hunt some local caches.

Here are the remaining dates (all are Saturdays) for our  litter pick-ups in 2006: June 10th, August 19th and October 14th.  With the exception of the August event, all pick ups will start at 10am.  We currently plan to start the August pick up at 8am in hopes of being finished prior to the heat of the day. Plans, of course, may change.

Northwest Ohio Geocachers are the proud maintainers of a 2 mile section of Adopt-A-Highway in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Our section is on US 24 / Anthony Wayne Trail, west of Waterville, and a portion of our section borders Providence Metropark.

The obligations of our group are to pick up litter 4 times a year.  In return, ODOT has posted nice free advertising for us on 2 signs, one on each end of our section.

Coordinates for the sign at the eastern end of our section:

  N 41  25.974    W 083  49.871

Coordinates for the sign at the western end of our section:

  N 41  25.029    W 083  51.446

ODOT has been notified about our event and they’ll post orange SHOULDER WORK AHEAD signs at the end of each section. We have the orange safety vests that everyone needs to wear during cleanup.  We are responsible for picking up litter between the berm of the road and the utility pole line.   Wear some sturdy shoes and bring gloves in case there are some dangerous items along the way (eg. broken glass and uhh, containers filled with a certain disgusting liquid)

We need to let you know that because this is a cache posted on geocaching.com it follows the same guidelines of liability and by participating you are agreeing to the disclaimer that can be found on this and any cache page. You are taking part on your own and NWOGEO has no insurance in case something happens. Children are certainly allowed but parents need to use their discretion concerning how they wish their children to be involved.

We'll meet at the American Legion parking lot to organize our efforts.  This parking lot is located at the coordinates posted at the top of the page.  This lot is close to being the middle of our section so it makes a pretty good base of operations.   If you can’t or don’t feel like walking and picking up litter, we can use one or two drivers to help drop off people and supplies, as well as distribute water or whatever else we need.  If you can’t make it right at 10:00am , this will also be a good place for you to come and find someone who can get you up to speed.

This is a way of giving back to the community as well as making a good name for our organization so let’s have lots of people out there, do it quickly and have fun doing it!

Any questions can be posted here and someone will answer it.  If you have FRS radios, bring em along, set them to channel 2.  Also, you may want to bring some DEET as we have encountered a few ticks in our area. (Click here for tick and deet information) Sunscreen might be a good idea too.

Hope to see you there !
