Elberton has a long rich history established in 1870 it sits along the North Fork of the Palouse River at the mouth of the Silver Creek this town once sported a population of 400 plus folks in the 1890's thru the turn of the century . Now only a few of the original buildings are left and the official population is only 35 . Elberton named after the towns founding father's son was famous across the Palouse country for its spectacular annual summer picnic from 1893 until 1924 .The town was also crowned the " Prune Capital of the World " for its 25,000 trees that produced more than a million pounds of dried fruit each year. Come visit this quaint near ghosttown in the Palouse country of Whitman County Washington.
