Geocache Description:

2008 Outstanding Cache

The cache is located at the posted coordinates, inside. Hours are 8am – 5pm SAT-THUR, 8am - 10pm FRI. You can see the cache but you can’t log it as a find until you break a sweat on the trails in order to unlock the key to the cache.

While you’re inside you should purchase a trail map, parking pass, and other necessities. You’ll also want to bring with you lots of water, comfortable shoes, hiking stick, bug repellant, camera, and perhaps a sleeping bag. While placing this cache we saw all sorts of wildlife including snakes, deer, and turkey.

To find the key combination you must find three numbers represented by A, B, & C. Each number is located in two locations along the PMT and associated loop trails; a significant amount of hiking is involved. Regardless of which trails you take finding all three numbers will require approximately 7 miles at a minimum, assuming you park at the nearest trail access. The numbers are all hidden identically and will not be too difficult to find.

Choose one of these for A: approximately 1 mile total in/out
N32 49.594 W084 50.314 – Chestnut Oak Trail
N32 50.457 W084 47.796 – Longleaf Loop Trail

Choose one of these for B: approximately 4 miles total in/out
N32 51.442 W084 46.773 – Big Poplar Loop Trail
N32 52.517 W084 41.988 – Wolfden Loop Trail

Choose one of these for C: approximately 2 miles total in/out
N32 50.143 W084 49.731 – Hatchery Ponds
N32 51.108 W084 44.151 – Dowdell Knob Loop Trail

To unlock the cache: Combination = 8888 - A - B - C.

I always enjoy seeing cachers’ signature cards inside the caches I find, so I’ve included a notebook in the cache to keep them clean & presentable. Place your card in the book, or create one using a blank card and your sticker or signature, for others to enjoy. This notebook is separate from the official logbook so make sure to sign that as well.

Instructions for re-locking the cache are also inside. Please reset the lock to 8888 when you leave. Have fun!
