This puzzle cache is in the village of Minto. Minto was named
for the eighth governor general of Canada, the earl of MINTO, in
1904 when the construction of the railway opened the area. Minto
has been a coal-mining town since the beginning.
Mining has always been a very dangerous occupation, and this
monument is a testament to that fact. Nowadays, the coal mining
done here is by way of strip mining, but years ago there were mine
shafts. As you drive into the area, you will see that most of the
surrounding area has been strip mined. In 1932, there was a bad
accident at the mine where some kids had wandered into one of the
shafts and were overcome by poisonous gases. Several locals who
worked at the mine attempted rescues, only to succumb to the gases
as well.
The posted coordinates will take you to the Memorial at Coal
