Geocache Description:

Another location from Russell Smiths "Curiosities of South Australia". Easy access with a picnic table for lunching at. If you get a choice, visit at night.

The Ring of Oaks
The oaks were planted in 1838 opposite the Salem Baptist church. They surrounded a pool, about 3 metres in diameter, which was fed by a spring. The church used the pool for baptising new believers. A wall was built around the pool and two sets of steps were constructed for the new believers to enter the water without slipping. But in 1899 an earthquake struck sections of the Adelaide Hills and the spring feeding the pool ceased to flow.
Checking up though I can only find records of quakes in 1897 and 1901, which were 2 of the 4 largest quakes recorded in South Australia.
The empty outdoor font was subsequently filled and the area within the circle was then used for tea meetings.
The cache is a small container hidden under the profuse amount of leaves around here.
