Geocache Description:

Easy off road cache in the heart of downtown Del Norte, Colorado.

In the mid 1870's, prospectors had found the nearby San Juan Mountains rich in gold and silver deposits. Many mining claims were registered and the fury of the mining activities began. Recognized as the "Gateway to the San Juans"...and the gold...Del Norte, organized and incorporated in 1872.
Del Norte was founded as a service center for the mining activities going on in the area, becoming the supply base & financial center at the west end of the San Luis Valley.

The container is an altoid type box. Original contents are a log book, pencil. butterfly paperclip, pocket screwdriver, Del Norte town pin, cross pendant, small pink baby rattle, and a 1937 buffalo nickle.
