Geocache Description:

DO NOT ATTEMPT THE CACHE FROM THE NORTH OR COME DOWN FROM THE BRIDGE AREA UP ABOVE. IT'S DANGEROUS AND YOU'LL BE TRESPASSING.

Main entrance is across from the cemetery on Sackett. There is another spot to park at the end of Valley View Drive, off of Grant Street.

So close, yet so far.

From the High Level bridge up above, on Main Street, you are only 250 feet away horizontally,

SO CLOSE...

But, you are also 250 feet vertically away

YET SO FAR....

I've laid out a very enjoyable & long hike along what the Native Americans called the Cujahaga. You and I now know it as the Cuyahoga. The crooked river. Plan about an hour round trip for this cache.

Terrain rating is 3 stars due to the physical effort needed and possible risks involved. 4 star rating if your not in shape, been eating too many hamburgers, and have been doing too many cache-n-dashes.

STAY ON THE TRAILS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

No bushwhacking required but you will come to some sections of the trail that may be washed out due to storms. Use common sense when choosing your path around sections like this.

STAY OFF OF THE CLIFFS!

Trail is not flat and level, it snakes along the crooked riverbank and you will be going up and down and over obstacles in your way. A simple misstep along this trail and you could find yourself wet.

Orange streamer nearby the cache site for help, GPS bounce can be bad down here.

At the cache site, you don't need to venture more than 35 feet off the trail. Here you will find sandstone cliffs and very loose soil. Cache though is very accessible. Don't think that I've hidden the cache up under the cliffs, I didn't and wouldn't. Though there are great hiding spots up under there, I felt it was too dangerous.

Suggest only children over the age of 5 and only children who follow directions while on the trail. Keep your eyes on them, I’d suggest a buddy system of one adult for each child.

My 6 year old Odin did fine here. But I had to help him climb through a few spots. Loose soil and steep banks aren’t easy for him to cross. He loves it down here along the river. We launch wood boats (old branches and logs) with crew and cargo (small rocks) on top of them, into the river. Then we sink them with BIG rocks! Lot of fun! Give your kids time to play while here.

Park could use some CITO, not horrible but you'll have no problem filling a grocery bag.

Babb Run Park also connects into the Gorge Metro Park just east of the bridge. If you want a longer hike, park there and hit the trail heading west, just make sure to be on the north side of the river.

Odin and I here in 2006 while hiding this cache, he's 7 here.

Odin and I back here in 2010, he's 11 here. .

Odin and I back down here in 2017 he's 18 now. Sheesh.

This is the hiking viking's 77th cache in the greater Akron area.
