Hide a Cache!
1. Everyone is
invited to hide a cache! Participants can place one or more caches
and any type of cache (puzzle, multi, etc.) and size is eligible --
just make sure it's within "48 North Country" (North of 48° 00.000 and West of 121° 30.000).
This area includes Whatcom, Skagit, Island, and northern Snohomish
counties. Note new West coordinates, which
have been extended eastward to include the Rockport and Darrington
areas!
2. Create a geocaching.com listing for the cache, making sure it
meets all the regular GC guidelines. The name of the cache must
start with "Cache Splash:" so we know it is part of this event. For
example, it might be Cache Splash: Big Cedar Cache.
3. Caches must be released between May 1st and June 30th. The
earlier the cache is released the better! This ensures that people
have a chance to visit the cache before the final event. The more
people that hunt your cache before the event, the better your
chances of winning prizes!
Seek A Cache!
1. Now, go out and find them! Remember, it's not a race -- do 1,
do 10, do them all, just have some fun! Click on the bookmark list
near the upper right corner of this page to see all the current
caches entered in the contest.
2. Each caching day, log your finds online at geocaching.com.
3. Send an email to the
Cache Splash Event Coordinator and comment on why you think a
particular cache should be recognized. Please provide the GC number
and cache name for reference.
4. Prize categories will be determined by the judges based on the
submissions received and may include the following:
- Best "first cache hide"
- Best scenic view
- Challenging cache hide
- Nice walk or hike
- Interesting location
- Tricky puzzle or mystery cache
- Best cache container or camo job
- Great cache page
- Good kids cache
A panel of volunteer judges will review the logs and emailed
feedback for all Cache Splash caches to determine the winners.
Actual prize categories will be determined by the judges based on
the feedback that is received by cache visitors, so remember to
send it in!
Celebrate!
1. The wrap-up event is scheduled for Saturday, July 15, 2006 from
11:00 a.m. - 4:00 PM. ALL geocachers are welcome to come and join
in the fun -- you don't need to be a WSGA member or even live in 48
North country to attend!
2. We'll meet at Burlington's Maiben Park at the posted coordinates
for food, fun and prizes! We have a large outdoor picnic shelter
reserved for us, complete with sinks, barbecue pit, and plenty of
tables. Restrooms are nearby, as is the Kiwanis Water Park for the
kids -- be sure to bring swimsuits and towels!
3. Grilled Costco hot dogs, pop, juice, and water will be
furnished. Please bring a potluck dish to round out the meal --
chips, potato salad, cookies, veggie tray and dip... you get the
idea! Please list what you are planning to bring in your "will
attend" log so we don't end up with 50 bowls of 7-layer dip!
4. Prizes for the Cache Splash award winners will be handed out at
about 2 p.m., and you must be present to win. If you aren't there,
the prize will be awarded to a runner up!
5. To help offset the expenses associated with the event, including
the cost of the facility rental, food and drinks, and prizes, we
would appreciate a $5.00 per person (or $10.00 per family) donation
at the event sign-in table -- this donation isn't required, but
will be greatly appreciated!
Remember!
- Don't leave your cache hides or finds until a week before the
event – place your cache(s) ASAP! The more caches placed the more
to find!
- Put "Cache Splash:" at the beginning of your cache name, so the
judges know which caches to look for.
- Put this page on your watchlist, and visit the page often for
updates as the date gets closer!
- This event is open to all geocachers. You do not need to have
placed a Cache Splash cache, or even found one, to attend this
event!
- If you're interested in donating a prize for the event, such as
an ammo can, geocoin, or ??, or if you have a little time available
to help with coordinating and setting up the event, please contact
us if you are interested in helping out!
- If you are bringing children, please indicate how many and
their ages in your log here, or email us via our profile. This will
help us plan something special for the kids!
