Geocache Description:

Congratulations to TeamGeoduck for FTF.
A unique park with a lot of history. It is close to the Sanford/Orlando Airport. Park is open to the public.
Please replace cache exactly as you found it.

In November 1942 NAS was commissioned for additional naval aviation training facilities. It was for fighter plane training.
At the end of World War 2 the airfield was decommissioned and turned back to the city.
In 1947 NY Giants constructed 8 baseball fields for Spring farm teams.
In 1951 the base reactivated to support fleet carrier aircraft.
In 1957 NAS was one of the first to receive squadron of AD3 Warriors. In 1960 they were replaced by the Vigilante.
In 1968 congress closed the base and returned the airport to the city.
Sit a spell and enjoy the history.
