This is a one-mile multicache consisting of seven waypoints. Time required to complete is about an hour (one-way by foot). You must navigate some rough terrain, break brush, and unlock a cache box at the last point. Each point contains decoding information necessary to find the next waypoint, reach the final cache, and/or clues to the combination of the locked cache box.
We have been granted permission to establish this multicache and all its points. We’ve also been granted permission by the manager of a fast food restaurant located at N 39 10.464 W 096 36.362 to park here while navigating this multicache. One additional general comment is that you will need to make a decision by the time you reach the 4th point as to whether you will proceed on foot to complete the multicache or whether you will retrace your steps and park at N 39 10.263 W 096 36.954. If you proceed on foot, you will be required to negotiate the most demanding leg of this multicache, which raises the terrain difficulty to 4.5. If you elect to drive to the second coordinates given above, the terrain difficulty level is 2.
This multicache will take you primarily along The Great Military Road, which was a road between Ft Leavenworth and Ft Riley, KS. This route was established in the year that the Kansas territory was organized and opened for settlement. It provided an avenue for commerce and settlement into the heart of Kansas, connecting Ft Leavenworth to Ft Riley and Ft Larned. Pioneers regarded this route with awe and when they spoke of it, they referred to it as “the great military road”. This route crosses the wildcat range of hills, which for the pioneers was one of the most difficult parts of the journey from Ft Leavenworth. It will also be demanding of geocachers between point 4 and point 5 and is reminiscent of the challenges experienced by the pioneers who crossed this same piece of terrain over 100 years ago.
This multicache has four offsets and one each regular ammo box, and two micro geocache cylinders. The encrypted lock combination is CEAG.
Trade items: All types welcome, but especially all things pioneers, old west, or military.
