NOTE: The cache is NOT located at the above coordinates. To obtain the coordinates for the first stage this cache, you will need to find the St Joseph 2006 River Tour cache #3 OR #4. The coordinates for this cache are located in each of those cache containers.
This cache will take you down the beautiful St Joseph River past undeveloped property and wildlife. We commonly see Deer, Geese, Great Blue Heron, Swans, Ducks, and Otter. After leaving the St Joseph 2006 River Cache #4 it will take an hour or so to reach the first stage of this cache. The next landing down river from this cache is in Buchanan, MI so plan accordingly.
You will need a boat of some sort to complete this cache. (Canoe, kayak, motorboat). Even if you can find parking closer to the cache, we recommend against attempting to swim to the cache as the river has a strong current. The property on both sides of the river is private property. We also suggest you always use a life vest (PFD) when boating on the river.
Once at proper landing point the cache should not be too difficult to find using normal Geocaching skills. The first stage of this cache is a watertight container about the size of a film canister. The 1st stage has the coordinates for the final stage.
The final stage is a small, log only container and will not be too difficult to find.
The rating for this cache is based on the need for a watercraft, distance to the cache and the need to find other challenging caches first. If this were in a park it would be a 3 / 1.5 rating.
As you are passing by the Big Orange Travel Bug Convention Center cache (GCK8ZV), be sure to wave as when we are home we often watch boats passing on the river. If you haven’t found it yet you are welcome to come ashore. Even if you have found it, stop at MaxB’s Travel Bug River Excursions - Pier #29 located at N 41° 51.467 W 086° 16.882 and log a second find for the Big O. Coordinates for St. Joseph 2006 River Tour #5 stage 1 can also be found in this cache container.
