Geocache Description:

This is our first hide. It is a camo 35 mm canister with a log and pencil. High muggle traffic area. Please put it back as you found it. Here is a bit of history about Nathan Calder Stadium..

The stadium was named for Nathan Calder. A 1918 graduate of Menasha High School, Calder served as a physical education instructor, coach and athletics director for MHS until he retired in June 1948. Considered a man of high character who taught his students and players the value of sportsmanship and fair play.

According to a newspaper article published on June 14, 1963, P.G. Miron Construction Co. Inc. of Menasha submitted the winning bid to build the staduim.

Dedicated on Sept. 12, 1964, Calder Stadium’s intent from the outset was to house football and track meets for the city’s public and parochial schools. Since then, the stadium, with an official seating capacity of 4,135, has served as the site for numerous events. The stadium at one time also held Menasha High School’s annual spring commencement ceremony (my grad class of 93 was the last at the field).

The Menasha Common Council, following a unanimous vote, turned over the title to Calder Stadium, as well as the 10 acres of land, to the Menasha Joint School District in 1983.
