This is a two-stage multi-cache that starts at the historical
marker for Saint John United Church of Christ. This is the fourth
in the series "McLennan County History," now abbreviated MCH.
German native Herman Staas, who settled here in 1882, was
instrumental in persuading other Germans to migrate to the Robinson
area. In 1884 the pioneers established this congregation under the
leadership of the Rev. Christian Schaer of Waco. Services were held
in homes and in the Presbyterian Sanctuary until the first building
was completed in 1890. The first resident Pastor here was the Rev.
John Strauss, who served from 1900 to 1940. Although the last
German service was conducted in 1959, the church continues to
reflect the ideals and traditions of its founders.
When you find the marker, count down to the fourth line from the
top and write down the third word of that line. Use the table at
the bottom of this listing to determine the value of each letter in
the word. Add up these values, multiply the result by 10 and put a
decimal point in front of it. Add the result to both the North and
West coordinate of the following.
N31 27.555 W097 06.287
This will bring you to the final stage.
As an example, suppose the word is CHESS. C=3, H=8, E=5,
S=19,S=19, and the total is 54. Multiplying by 10 gives 540, and
putting a decimal point in front gives .540. Adding this to both
coordinates gives N31 28.095 W097 06.827. Remember to carry past
the decimal point if necessary!
The final stage is a cammoed film canister. It is within walking
distance of the marker.
