La Perouse Pokirocks Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

pavrita: This was a wonderful cache leading many people to this historic "moonscape"! We are thrilled that the cache lasted so long and was enjoyed by so many! But we have to archive it now due to several cachers not finding success. We have moved from the island and can no longer service this location. It sure was fun while it lasted! Hopefully another industrious local cacher will find a way to start another cache in the area. I think the key to ours lasting so long was that it was so close to the coast which is public land rather then in the jurisdiction of DLNR. Aloha

Geocache Description:

South Maui past Makena at the end of the road, rocky lava flow terrain, very little elevation change, almost at sea level, HOT location, perfect activity for a cloudy day on Maui.

This area is Maui's most recent eruption flow from only about 200 years ago. Bring drinking water, wear sturdy soled shoes and sunscreen. Park in the lot and then take the pedestrian access around the gate at 20d 36.026N / 156d 25.180W. This is a public access area along the historic King's Highway. The cache is 0.9 miles from the gate. You'll walk through a shady tree grove and past some great little beaches w/ awesome tide pools. Then out into the moonscape of the lava flow. The cache is in a metalic ILLY coffee can. Please do NOT move any rocks.
