In (Coordinate) Plane View Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

green & gold: Time to put an end to this one. Saw the log about construction equipment and had to check it out. Sure enough...holy cats!...part of the back end of the nature pod is flattened and gone. Nothing but open land, dirt piles, bulldozers, and signs warning of a hard hat area. Looks like the land is being prepped for new houses. I hope this is not the beginning of the end of the Whitnall Nature Pod. Thanks to everyone who solved the puzzle and found this cache (and helped dry it out when it was wet).

Geocache Description:

The coordinates listed are for an entrance to the Whitnall Nature Pod from a dead end neighborhood street, not the coordinates for the actual cache. The cache is also in the nature pod, however, to find the correct coordinates, you have to correctly solve the puzzle shown below. Parking is also available in the high school lots on 116th St. across from the main entrance to the Nature Pod, however, PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN SCHOOL PARKING LOTS DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

Note: Cache is NOT located on school property. It is within the nature pod. If you find yourself going on school property, you may want to check over your solution or re-read the directions carefully.

If you think this cache has something to do with planes, you are right. No, not airplanes, but the coordinate plane. This cache is another math puzzle cache put together by the 6th graders at Whitnall Middle School. How well do you know the coordinate plane? Do you know the difference between the x-axis and y-axis? Remember where the quadrants are located? It's time to take a trip down memory lane back to your youth when you would ask yourself when you would use this stuff in your lifetime. No better reason than to locate a mystery geocache! In order to correctly solve the actual coordinates, you must download a copy of the instructions to the puzzle below, grab a sheet of graph paper, plot the coordinates, and connect them in the order listed. When finished, your graph will display the remaining north and west coordinates from either left to right or top to bottom depending on if you know where the quadrants are located. Quadrants II and III will display the remaining north coordinates, while Quadrants I and IV will display the remaining west coordinates. The 6th graders will be watching to see who visits this cache. Feel free to trade items and leave some cool things behind for the kids to check out. Good luck to everyone!

This cache was featured on the FOX 6 News at 9pm on May 4, 2006 as part of the Caching With Condella segment. FOX 6 Meterologist Vince Condella visited our class to do a story on GPS and geocaching in education. Our class took him to this cache.
We also released a travel bug in Mr. Condella's honor called the FOX 6 Weather Bug. CLICK HERE to see where it has traveled and if there are any good photos in the logs that may be used for possible future "featured photos" on Vince's weather segments.
