Geocache Description:

A micro cache placed in an historical spot in the Calico Mountains of the Mojave Desert.

This is an interesting location which probably dates back to the gold rush days in the Calico Mountains. The old timers probably took more silver out of these hills than gold, but it was still back in the days when gold was the element that most of those old tough folks were diggin' for. There are some dangerous mines just north of this cache site, if you believe the writin' on the walls. I wouldn't recommend testing that theory, as a couple of folks have recently met an unfortunate situation while exporing the mines in the Calicos. This cache is a safe place to visit. We placed it while returning from the nearby Ivy's Canyon Cache, which we placed for our grand daughters birthday. You can nab two caches rather easily if you make it out this way. We drove right up to it in a 2WD Izusu Rodeo, which has high ground clearance. A 4X4, quad, or bike would make it easily. 2WD probably should park and hike before descending into the valley. You'll know your vehicle's capability better than us, but we burnt a little rubber on the climb out of the valley with our 2WD Izusu. Use your judgement, as going back out towards the west, assuming that's the way you approached, is the only choice for a 2WD vehicle. Hey, hiking a bit is good for the heart. Enjoy!!
