Historical location near Harstad. Major viking chieftain seat 1000 years ago.
Here are the remains of boathouses said to belong to Asbjørn Selsbane; the viking that played a vital role in the events that led to the killing of King Olav at Stiklestad in 1030.
The historican Snorre describes how Asbjørn sailed to Karmøy and Jæren to buy corn, and was robbed by Tore Sel. The next year Asbjørn sailed back with a larger boat and many men too seek revenge. He chopped Tore Sel's head off in front of the king. Thus the name 'Selsbane'. Seek up the rest of the story yourself! Trondenes Historical Center is nearby. They have all the stories.
Note: Terrain rating valid when descending from parking place. More difficult on shortest route from road.
