Sammy's Singin' Cowboy Roy Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

-Rusty-: Greetings,

While Geocaching.com would like to continue to hold the location for you, doing so blocks other cachers from placing caches in the area. We feel that this cache has been down for a period of time exceeding what is reasonable for the area, and thus I regretfully must archive it.

If the owner is able to resolve the issues and would like to have it reinstated, please contact me through my profile within 90 days.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page places it through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Thank you for understanding,

Rusty...

Geocache Description:

From Torch River Bridge, turn left on Torch River Drive. Follow your GPS and it will lead you to a DNR posted location. A parking area is available. The platform is only a short walk.

Skegemog Lake Wildlife Area

If you've been to "Heidi the Swamp Dog" cache, you'll be somewhat familiar to this wonderful area. However, that was not the only part of the Skegemog Lake Wildlife Area that exists. There are about 3,300 acres of swamp , forest and uplands that, under the direction of the MDNR, exist for your enjoyment of nature. There are several locations where you can enjoy the beauty of Lake Skegemog, and this location is one that is often overlooked. It's a short walk to the lookout, and on your way in, sign the "guest book," and read what other people wrote. There is an information board which gives you the history of this park. It's very interesting reading. (also, find a doodle of mine of Heidi and Cowboy in the guest book)
Take your camera and binoculars because I guarantee you'll see wildlife in, on, and above the water, enjoy some old-growth trees, and contemplate what this area must have looked like before they installed the dam in Elk Rapids, which flooded this area, leaving the underwater stump field you can see from the platform. This is a beautiful spot, any time of year.

In the theme of "Heidi the Swamp Dog," this is a large ammo box filled with some doggie stuff, but not all. I have a new English Pointer pup named Sammy's Singin' Cowboy Roy, (Cowboy), and this cache is dedicated to him. There is a very nice FTF prize, so get out there and be the first to find it!
Cowboy Roy is counting on you! (He was with me when we discovered this hiding spot.)

Happy hunting!
PS: To avoid unnecessary bushwhacking, start looking for the cache AFTER you get to the lookout.
