Geocache Description:

The North Platte River Starts in Northern Colorado and is one of the few rivers that flows northward into Wyoming. It flows through the mountains, where it is fed by numerous mountain streams, to Casper, then to South Eastern Wyoming and Eastern Nebraska. There are several reservoirs and dams along the way including Whalon Diversion Dam which you will see here. These areas are used for recreation and are important for irrigation purposes for the farmers. The North Platte played a significant part in the westward expansion of our country, providing a route for both the Oregon and the Mormon Trails west, although it was not navigable.
The Central Platte River Valley in Nebraska is an important stopping point for the Whooping Crane and the Sandhill Crane during their migration.

Fishing is not permitted from the bridge or the dam.

To get to the area, follow Hwy 26 to the North Platte River Access Road, Road #3 to the south, between Ft Laramie and Guernsey. From here, you are on your own.

The cache is a 2.4L plastic container.
