Geocache Description:

At the dawn of the 20th century, two natural creeks ran their way through UCLA’s campus. Since that time, the creeks have been all-but-destroyed by the multitude of construction projects. A small portion of one of the creeks, however, still exists above-ground. Although the area has been over-run with invasive non-native species, a small group of volunteers from UCLA and the surrounding community have come together to begin restoring the creek to its natural state. A number of birds reside in the area and can be seen on any given day. Information on the creek, the project, and the birds has been included in the cache (please don’t remove this). For more info, see the webpage in the hint (it may be a spoiler).

THINGS TO NOTE:

GPS reception may be poor in the immediate area.

The cache is intentionally placed a short distance away from the creek as to minimize impact. There is lots of newly-planted vegetation growing in this area as a result of the restoration project; Please do not trample it! You should not have to damage any plants getting to this cache.

There will be lots of students on campus during the week!!! Weekends, however, will be relatively quiet. Evenings are usually mellow also.

Parking is another obvious problem. You can find metered parking on Charles E Young Drive North just a short distance from the cache. If you want to stay for longer, parking in a UCLA lot costs $8 per day and you must go to the Parking Information booth located on Westwood Blvd. to buy a permit (N 34 04.089 W 118 26.698). You can also pay to park in a public lot in Westwood (N 34 03.713 W 118 26.791). Alternately, you can try to find free parking on the street among the apartments (N 34 04.081 W 118 26.966).

SPECIAL NOTE: In March of 2008, Kanosereg took over this cache from SpeedyB, who moved away from the UCLA area.
