Geocache Description:

The Atlantic Canada Geocaching Association's workshop working group will be conducting the following workshop entitled: Geocaching Basics & GSAK.

This will be a 3 hour session where geocachers of all experience level are welcome to attend this workshop. Bring along someone new to the activity.

How to Get Here:Drive to Glace Bay side of campus, come in driveway next to NRC building.
Go straight in to parking stub machine.Get $1.00 stub for parking.
Then park close to the posted coordinates – which is at the A-Wing entrance. Room A230

The Geocaching Basics session will be directed to people recently involved in geocaching, or those looking to get involved. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Introduction to Geocaching
  • Terminology
  • How to get started
  • Things to remember
  • Before you go out
  • GPS overview
  • Trackables
  • Types of caches
  • Type of cachers

Following this session,  experienced cachers will be available to lead a group hunt of caches placed around the near-by walking trails.

The second session of the workshop will be focused on more experiences geocachers and will focus on the geocaching management software GSAK.

The following topics will be covered:
  • Introduction to GSAK
  • GSAK vs Pocket Queries
  • Importing waypoint
  • Filters
  • Macros
  • Caches along a route
  • Exporting

Afterwards a gethering will take place on-site to talk about geocaching. A number of items will be on display including:

  • cammoflage techniques
  • geocaching accessories
  • geocoin

A hand out will be provided to attendees but will be limited in numbers. 

Seating is limited so please indicate how many people will attend.
