Turn east at the only stop light in Chewelah. Follow Flowery Trail to Chewelah Peak. There will be road construction so you may have to wait once in awhile. It's worth the drive to see the progress being made on the road to 49 Degrees North.
The Chewelah Peak Learning Center is located 50 miles north of Spokane and sits at the 4,000 foot level of Chewelah Peak on 20 acres of wilderness land. It first opened its doors in September 2003 to support outdoor learning for K-12 students in eastern Washington. Currently, Chewelah Peak can accommodate 100 guests overnight and 400 guests for meals in the main lodge. However, in an effort to fully support eastern Washington students, the Learning Center continues to grow. The construction of a new learning studio was completed in the spring of 2006. Chewelah Peak plays host each summer to AWSP's student leadership camps and year-round outdoor science education programs that offer students exciting hands-on learning opportunities aligned to state standards. The facility is also often used for team-building exercises, as well as conferences, picnics, retreats and tourist accommodations.
