Geocache Description:

In Goffstown NH, start near the sports fields on Route 114 across from Glen Lake. Hiking to the cache is a steep climb; remember to bring water on hot days!

Sunset Over Spring Flowers

Please DO NOT access the cache from the cell tower access road or from Alpine Drive. The police will be called by the neighbors, and those locations are posted private property! Use only the trail under the power lines from the sports fields on Route 114, as described below. Thanks! Your cooperation will keep this cache active and your car from being towed.

This multi-cache is a revision of the prior traditional cache, "Can You Hear Me Now?" on Yacum Hill in Goffstown, NH. The details of the cache were re-worked in June 2022 to make room for 6 other caches along this route up Yacum Hill.

From the top of the hill, there are good views in multiple directions. Parking is at the baseball fields on route 114 in Goffstown. (N 43° 00.867 W 071° 34.129). There are other roads that your GPSr will tell you are closer to the cache, but DO NOT USE THEM! The land on either side of most of the cache route is private property and your vehicle will be ticketed. Please remain on the power line easement during your hike. Total walking distance to the cache one way is about 0.7 miles. Note: The vertical rise from parking to the cache is approximately 400 feet with areas that are very steep. Some of the trail is exposed ledge so be very careful in wet weather. As you climb take a moment to rest from time to time and turn around to enjoy the view.

From the parking area, you will follow the maintenance road / snowmobile trail under the power lines to the first waypoint at the posted coordinates. At that location, you will see a yellow identification number on the power pole of the form STxxx. You will use the number "xxx" to compute the coordinates for the final:

  • N 43 00. ((xxx * 4) - 8)
  • W 71 33. ((xxx * 4) + 53)

To get to the final coordinates from the first waypoint, you will continue on the trail until you crest the large hill in front of you at approximately 0.5 miles from the parking area. At the crest of the hill the power lines take a right turn. You'll want to follow the trail under the power lines a bit further after the turn, before heading into the woods within 150 feet of the calculated coordinates for the final cache.

The cache container is still the original medium sized Skippy peanut butter jar which was placed in 2006. You do not need to move any rocks to find the cache, however you will need to be standing in the right place to see the container.

A bit of history from the History Of Goffstown, NH:

"On the southerly side of the river is Yacum Hill, a prominent Hill, a prominent elevation of land westerly of the Abram Buzzel place, sometimes called Scribners' Hill. A commanding view is obtained from the summit of this elevation. It is said to derive its name from the fact that most teamsters, in the days of King George III, used this expression when coming around the point of the hill, as we would use the expression "haw" in order to cause the team to swing to the left and thus avoid the point of the hill."

While you are here, we highly recommend you also find the six new caches on Yacum Hill:

Happy caching!
