*** CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES
***
THE
PUZZLES (yes, plural):
To find the
coordinates for the cache you will have to solve FIVE logic
puzzles. The puzzles are provided below along with the instructions
for what to do when a puzzle has been solved. If you have made
repeated attempts to verify your coordinates, you can email me and
give me your answers (and explain your reasoning behind the
answers) to each of the puzzles so I can offer assistance as to
which puzzle(s) you need to try again. The only hint offered at the
bottom of this page is in regards to actually finding the cache
once you have the coordinates.
| To find the last three
digits of the latitude coordinates: |
Step 1:
Solve This Puzzle
(Puzzle #1) |
Find
a common English five-letter word, knowing
that:
ADULT has two
letters in common with it, not at their correct places.
GUSTO has no
common letter with it.
STORY has one
common letter, at the correct place.
BUILT has one
common letter, at the correct place.
DYING has one
common letter, not at the correct place.
BUGLE has two
common letters, but only one at the correct place.
LIGHT has no
common letter with it. |
Step 2:
Cipher |
Take the word
you found in the first puzzle and apply this cipher to each letter
in the word. Add each of those numbers together to arrive at a
sum.

Determine
what number should logically appear in the square in the bottom
right corner of this collection of numbers.
What is that
number? _______________ |
Step 4:
Find The Coords |
Take the sum
you found in Step 2 and the number you found in Step 3 and add them
together. This number gives you the final three digits in the
latitude for this cache.
What is that
number? ________________
Plug that
number into the latitude:
N 35
06.__________ |
|
You are halfway
there!
At the bottom of this page you can use evince to verify the
coordinates
(but not until you also have the longitude
determined). |
| To find the last three
digits of the longitude coordinates: |
Step 1:
Solve This Puzzle
(Puzzle #3) |

Determine what number belongs
in the empty circle.
What is that number?
________________
Multiply that number times
14.
What is that product?
________________ (this is the number you will use later on to
arrive at the correct coordinates) |
Step
2:
Solve This Puzzle
(Puzzle #4) |

Determine what number belongs below the bottom circle.
What is that number?
_______________ |
Step
3:
Solve This Puzzle
(Puzzle #5) |

Determine what number belongs
in the empty space at the foot of the second column.
What is that number?
______________ |
Step
4:
Find The Coords |
Take the
numbers you found in the longitude section's Step 1 (after you
multiplied by 14), Step 2, and Step 3 and add them together. This
number gives you the final three digits in the longitude for this
cache.
What is that
number? ________________
Plug that
number into the longitude:
W 089
53.__________ |
You are almost
there!
Now that you have the latitude and the longitude,
verify the coordinates using evince:

THE
CACHE:
The cache is a green decon container labeled with a
geocaching sticker. It does contain some small trade items so bring
something to trade. Once you have the correct coordinates, this is
a pretty quick grab, although you may not want to do it in nice
work clothes - could be a little messy. Parking is available nearby
and muggles are plentiful depending upon the time of day you
attempt to make the grab (early morning or late afternoon are the
best times).
Beware of
Muggles!
