Geocache Description:

Stoney Pond NY State Forest

Ok so it took us a while to hide this one … we won this cache (ammo) box as the door prize at the 2004 NYGO picnic …

The first time we hid this, was from ourselves in the basement under some stuff… and we forgot to list it… so its no wonder no one found it.

This time we hid it in Stony Pond Sate Forest as part of Cache In Trash Out day 4/22/2006. This forest is a nice little hide-away which I have enjoyed very much over the last few years. It has a nice pond with fishing, a great trail system for cross-country skiing, mountain biking, Camping, and Hunting (last fall I saw a hunter dragging out a 8 point buck).

This cache is a short hike off from the parking area by the pond. The Cache is a large ammo container full of great stuff (the door prize was loaded!). We added our signature Nalgene Bottle to mix.

Someone claimed FTF before the prize was given out at the picnic (cheating if you ask me – it was sitting on the table in plain sight!). I suspect they thought it was the “multi-part event” cache since the last stop on the event cache was very cleverly hidden in a GPS battery compartment sitting on the table nearby. (Man it took me forever to find it… I must have moved that GPS 3 or 4 times).

So I disqualified that FTF but it is still in the logbook. I also disallowed my son finding it in the basement as the FTF since he did not use the GPS.

You may want to wear long pants and insect repellent.

Please try to re-hide the cache well.
