This is where Henry Rose used to have his cabin. He was a prospector way back when & due to a dispute over a mining claim, his days were ended by the hangman in Nelson, BC.
Henry Rose was convicted of murder & was the last person to be hung in Nelson. The fireplace & chimney are all that remain of his cabin, thanks to George Oliver who, in 1958, thought that it should be preserved & he built a shelter over the fireplace. This has made a great place for the Gray Creek Historical society to place an information plaque, and it is the southernmost point in the Gray Creek Historical Tour.
The cache is a short way from the cabin, it's not a long hike. Be careful when parking - there really isn't a good place to park, so get as far off the road as you can when pulling over.
The cache contains a first to find prize, log book, lots of trade items & a supply of the brochure "Gray Creek Historical Tour". If you are heading north & would be interested in a few other historical spots, please take a brochure & have fun on the self-guided tour.
The remains of the cabin and the cache are on the east side of the highway. There is a pull-out spot on the west side of the highway directly opposite GZ. Coordinates for parking are: N 49 34.623 W 116 47.843
