Hosterman Traditional Cache

This cache is located just off Hosterman Trail in the Monongahela National Forest, Pocahontas County
Along the route to the cache you will walk across a 207' swinging bridge across the Greenbriar River. Wildlife is also very plentiful and the scenery is beautiful. Hosterman was once a small town complete with railroad traffic and a saw mill. Not much remains, but some old buildings and the tracks.
To access the trail head parking area you will need to locate Back Mountain Road. Back Mountain Road can be picked up at the town of Cass or Durbin. Once on this road turn down onto Hosterman Road: N 38 28.892 W 79 52.774 Follow this gravel road to the trail head parking area: N 38 28.231 W 79 51.819 You will begin your trek on bike or foot down the gravel road beyond the closed gate. Walk down this road through the field until you come to the swinging bridge. This bridge is the start of the Hosterman Trail. It is blue blazed. The distance to the cache is just under 2 miles. The cache container is a medium size ammo container. Please remember, do not leave anything in the container that even resembles food. Bears frequent the area and will easily sniff out the container and destroy or carry it off.
