Geocache Description:

A Beautiful waterfall on the Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River

This cache replaces our Agate Falls Micro cache. The tree we had it hidden in fell down. We moved the cache away from the cache away from the high traffic areas. But make sure you visit the falls before you leave, there is also a icecream shop across the road from the parking area to stop at.

The following is a execerpt from A guide to michigan waterfalls

AGATE FALLS

From the viewing area the sometimes-steep trail to Agate Falls runs over roots and rocks, the middle branch of the Ontonagon River urges visitors on by repeatedly dropping over dark stone to create a chain of miniature falls. The trail leads to a perfect viewing area at the base of the falls. There, the entire scope of the falls stretches out in front of you, and its beauty is captivating.
A cool wind which usually blows down the length of the river and over the falls, touches the skin with its refreshing purity.
The 80 foot wide river brushes up against the leafy branches of oaks and maples as it sweeps out of the thick forest to drop over a series of square steps sliced out of stone. Cascades within cascades are created as the water tumbles over the black rock, and a series of soft, white trails fall into a pool below. As the river moves slowly over the small stones that fill the shallow pool, it creates a bubbling rapids, then runs through the forest once again.
The trail to Agate Falls begins in the Joseph E Oravec Roadside Park, which is a perfect spot to rest after viewing these popular falls. Facilities at the park include running water, pit toilets and picnic tables.
