Geocache Description:

Steep climb, but on a very good stone path, almost like a flight of stairs, then flattening out before one last short pull up to the plaque – WOW!

There’s parking for a couple of cars at the start of the path up or you can park as for the Bowder Stone/Grange Fell Cave/Bowder Stone II caches. The views from the top over Grange and Derwent are terrific and well worth that extra short climb after you find the cache. We’ve been around the Lakes a bit and we think all round this is probably our favourite cache placement – so we gave you 2 for 1 to entice you up!! We placed Bowder Stone II cache en route. ENJOY!!
“When King Edward VII died in 1910, his sister Princess Louise, President of the National Trust, determined to purchase the view-point of Grange Fell in Borrowdale, and make it, through the National Trust, a gift to the public in memory of the late King. Public subscription soon raised the necessary funds, and Grange Fell was purchased, an area which included Bowderstone Cottage, and the well known tourist attraction, The Bowder Stone”.
The inscription on the monument reads :
In loving memory of King Edward VII
Grange Fell is dedicated by his sister Louise
as a sanctuary of rest and peace.
Here may all beings gather strength
Find in scenes of beautiful nature a cause
For gratitude and love to God giving them
Courage and vigour to carry on his will
Eight years earlier Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria, had performed the opening ceremony at Brandlehow Wood, (Four Oaks cache) the National Trust's first aquisition in the Lake District.
