The above coordinates will lead you to a cache of maps that will help you find the real cache. The map will show the cache, but will also show the location of a tag I placed that contains coordinates of the final cache and parking coordinates. You must find the final cache to log a find.
From the parking to the cache there is a "trail", but it is overgrown in spots. About 350 feet from the cache, you leave the "trail" and head downhill to the right down even less of a trail. At about 200 feet from the cache, the ground levels off a bit. To the left as you came down, you should see two mossy trees, one big, one small. A trail goes off in that direction. It is the only safe way to the cache and will take you away from it and down. When down, you should be in a grassy "meadow" next to the water. Cross the water, go upstream, and look for the cache at the base of the cliff.
IMPORTANT NOTE: a new road has been built. It is easier now to drive to an offset of +0.200 N and -0.608 W from the parking coordinates to intersect the "trail". The parking isn't great there, but you should be able to find something.
In my early career, when I was exploring around, hunting for hidden civilizations, I was once drinking in some dive in Timbuktu, hoping to hear rumors of "haunted" places that could mean unknown people living in a isolated area protecting themselves from strangers. I heard of an area where few people had returned from, and those that did had lost their wits, babbling about fearsome monsters. No one would guide me, but I scribbled a map onto a napkin that led me to the area.
To make a long story short, I didn't find a civilization, but I found the monsters. They were living, breathing dinosaurs! I hurried back to tell the world, but I was ridiculed, and called mad. No one would believe me! I vowed to return, and collect indisputable evidence.
Alas! Not long after I had left, the whole area was burned to the ground. I hunted all over trying to find some evidence of survivors, or even smoldering remains, but I found nothing. I am sure that the government was behind it, destroying the evidence and discrediting me for their own twisted purposes.
I went back there this year, just to roam through the wilderness trying to recapture my memories. I remembered a waterfall where I had first sighted a dinosaur, and I wanted to see it again. It was odd, however. While there were lots of roads, I kept running into gates that were locked. The way to Timbuktu was blocked. What are they trying to hide out there? Did some dinosaurs survive?
I finally found a way to my waterfall, but never saw a dinosaur. I left a cache out there so you can share in my experience. I'm not giving more explicit directions; you'll have to find your way there using the map I'm leaving. I don't want the same thing to happen again.
Oh, and if you do see a dinosaur? Remember they may be cute, but they are wild creatures, and you should keep your distance....
BTW, if you see my truck on the way to/from the map cache - help a guy out; it's a little stuck...
The map cache is located in Forest Park and complies with the geocaching policies for Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) properties. Please respect park hours when caching..
