Geocache Description:

Belle Island is a beautiful get-away in downtown Richmond and worth a visit by any who like the outdoors, sunbathing or historical exploration. The 3rd traditional cache on Belle Island, this cache takes you to a relatively unused part of the island. It was the result of the combined efforts of MeshMan & SheGrowsManyFlowers (of Richmond), Sven7 & Scared of the Woods (of Charlottesville), and BuggBear (of Danvers, MA).

The cache is a small plastic container slightly larger than a ‘micro.’ While the cache can be approached a couple of ways, we recommend circling around to approach from the east to avoid drawing undo attention. As original cache was muggled, the replacement was hidden a short distance away. Please be discreet and follow the same suggestion as given by the owners of Fear Factor: bring a bag to CITO with and so you can pose as volunteers. Our team did a pretty thorough clean up of the new site but an urban park like this can always use a little help!

The following note was posted by Walden Pond. I am including it below as an important FYI:
"For future cachers, the cache is on a National Historic site, so please respect the area. While it may seem like an abdanoned shed, it is actually the ruins of the Civil War Iron Factory. Belle Isle became a Confederate prison after the Battle of Bull Run, confining Union noncommissioned officers and enlisted men. It had both an hospital and iron factory."
