Crawfish alley is where we brought our two sons (Greg &
Pete) to search for Crawfish and other critters. We would bring
home a few to keep as pets. They often lived for up to 2 years. Any
child, no matter their age, will find it fun to watch them grow,
molt their shells and climb about on the bottom searching for food.
You don't have to feel guilty about taking them home because
crawfish are the favorite food of numerous species and rarely reach
old age. See www.aqualandpetsplus for additional info.
This cache is designed for the young and young at heart. Finding
the cache is only part of the challenge, the other part is to find
a crawfish. Under rocks at the river edge or in pools of water are
a good bet. You can also try attaching a piece of bacon to a
string, tossing it into a slow moving part of the river, letting it
rest a while and then pulling it slowly in. Email a photo of the
crawfish or email a report of your find to us with your address and
we will send you an "Official Crawfish Hunter" button (Image 1). If
your child or children are less than 8 years old, and they turn
over at least ten rocks and see any creature (worms count), then
they too qualify for a "Button".
Recommended parking is at Locust Grove off Glen Ave in Millburn
(N 40 43.662, W 074 18.243). Take the Rahway (white) trail from the
parking lot through the woods, around the fallen trees, to the
river below the dam.
The cache is a 6x6x2 1/2 inch plastic box containing:
- Assorted crawfish
- crawfish magnets
- signature geocoins
- FTF token
- Log and pencils
Please make sure the cache is securely latched and re-hide it
carefully, since the hide site is a bit unstable.
We hope you enjoy the cache as much as we did placing it. Happy
Hunting!
