These two small igloos that are nestled in the hills just south of Home Hill are one of the regions best kept secrets.
The igloos were part of the World War II radar station which was designed to act as an early warning unit. The station was capable of detecting aircraft from a range of up to 500km away.
The igloos housed the diesel alternators that were required to power the station which operated from this location between 1943 and 1945.
Unfortunately the igloos are all that remain of this interesting military site but it is still well worth having a look at and as you take in the views that are available you will be able to appreciate why Charlies Hill was choosen for the radar station.
The road to the top of the hill is not accessible for caravans.
Have fun and happy geocaching.
The first time finder of this cache was Map Monkey and he said "Our 2nd FTF for the day (3 in total). A great hidden area, one which we had driven by heaps of times, yet i
never remember seeing the sign. Shows how much we take notice of signs on our travels.A nice easy cache to find with some excellent accomodation nearby if there is a Cat5 cyclone bearing down.Took nothing, left some stuff (i keep forgetting to take note of the items). Nice cache, thanks Burdair_3. Is that our cache over there on the other hill???"
