Portage 1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ohio State Parks: This cache was placed more than four years ago and it has had a great run. We have decided to archive the cache since it has become missing. Let me explain the reason for archiving the cache. Although our mission is to provide recreational opportunities, it is also to preserve and protect our natural resources. As cachers, you know that over time an area can become overused. Therefore, archiving and removing these caches will allow the disturbed area to revert back to its natural state. It also allows us to place new caches next year and introduce you to other areas in the park. We look forward to developing more challenging and entertaining hides for the Ohio State Parks in 2011 which will begin the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend 2010. We promise to get you wet, frustrate you and stump you, but most of all we hope to give you an outdoor recreational experience that exceeds your expectations as a park visitor to Ohio State Parks.
I also want to personally thank all the cachers who help put together both challenges for 2010. I look forward to working with you and any new volunteers on the upcoming 2011 challenges.

Geocache Description:

Located in Portage Lakes State Park near the beach parking lot on the Shoreline Trail.

This cache is part of a geocaching event for the Summer of 2006 conducted by Ohio State Parks in the Portage/Guilford Lakes Region. The event begins on Memorial Day 2006 and ends on Labor Day 2006. There is a total of 20 different caches located in 5 different parks. Those parks include Jefferson Lake SP, Beaver Creek SP, Guilford Lake SP, Quail Hollow SP and Portage Lakes SP. Located inside each cache is a word that you have to decode using the dycrption key. Once you get all twenty words, you then unscramble them to form a phrase that relates to Ohio State Parks. Once you get the words and phrase, email them to todd.metz@dnr.state.oh.us. You must list each word with the corresponding cache name and the phrase. The first person to do so will win a new GPS unit and some goodies. Everyone that successfully finds all twenty will be invited to a geocaching campout where they will receive one free night of camping. All caches will remain active after the event. The caches are packed full of goodies!!! Good Luck!!
