Dam Dams Multi-Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This Multi-cache will take you on a tour of the Dams in the Lithgow area.
Your first waypoint is located at Lake Lyell on the Cox’s river near S33 31.683 E150 04.850. First built to provide cooling water to Mt Piper Power Station (It can also pump to Lake Wallace), it was expanded to have a much larger capacity over a decade later. Near the above point you will find a large sign telling you the years that Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the dam works were completed.
Stage 1 – 19AB
Stage 2 – 19CD
Take note of these numbers AB and CD, as you will need them to find the final cache location.
Your second point of call is Lake Wallace, or more commonly called Wang Dam by the locals. This dam was built to provide cooling water to Wallerawang Power Station to the north of the dam. You are looking for a micro cache container at S33 25.492 E150 04.814. In this container you will find a small note with a 2 digit number. Let’s call that FG.
OK now for the final cache location
S 3F GD.C0A E 150 00.(B+D)1D
The cache locations are Geo-kid friendly, but keep an eye on them at the final location as there is a large body of unfenced water in the immediate vicinity (Grin). Points 1 & 2 can be driven to within a few meters in any car. The final cache location is 1km from the car park, which itself is on a very good quality dirt road accessible by all cars
The cache may be unavailable at extreme security times as this is located on Delta Electricity property (With permission of course), and the cache will be disabled at these times. The cache location itself is open for recreational fishermen, but I warn people NOT to go to the final cache location after dark, or during extreme weather (i.e. snow, severe fog, or very high winds).
