In honour of goltzene. Here is to 1000 great finds, and 1000 more. This is a hybrid letterbox cache and therefore will not be found at the posted coordinates. The actual coordinates are now visible to help with hunt.
This cache is located in Sugarcreek Metropark and has a permit on file. Only available parking is in the Conference Rd. lot. Please follow all park rules and stay on the trails. Park open 8am until dark. If you do all of our caches in this park, I would recommend doing this one first.
Updated 3/10/26 as the Great Stone Stairway is no longer. The trail has been revamped and here are your instructions:
From the parking lot follow the paved path to the Trailside Shelter and turn right on the trail. Walk past the 2 swings that overlook the prairie then look for the blue trail on the left. Follow the blue trail around the bend and when it makes a sharp right turn you will see the stones that helped to create the orginal stone stiarcase. With your back to the creek below look between the first two stones on the left for the cache.
Sugarcreek MetroPark is a very diverse area with all stages of succession, mature forests, a trio of 500-year old white oaks, varied topography, a planted prairie, meadows, and scenic Sugar Creek. The planted prairie provides a diverse mix of native prairie and old-field species but requires yearly burning or mowing due to the abundance of brambles and small trees. Visitors also will find a large meadow and two pastures.
