Geocache Description:

Cache is located near the old railbed of the GM&O Railroad that, in the early 20th century, ran through the Mississippi State University campus (then known as Mississippi A&M and later Mississippi State College). It is just off the MSU disc golf course (Hole #13, which is aptly named for this cache), so please be aware of those who are partaking in the sport when you are there.

As you approach the 13th tee (easiest access to the cache is from the parking lots on the north side of Eckie's Pond), look directly behind you to the west and you will see a narrow building in the distance which is now the Stennis Institute of Government. The Stennis facility was the original depot for the GM&O line that came through campus.

For more info on the GM&O in the area, visit the GM&O Historical Society's web site. In 1996, the society produced a very informative official issue (No. 78) on the Starkville line (including photos). If you wish to order a copy of the back issue, you can do so on the GM&O's official web site. Another cache, Mississippi Blues Trail - Oktibbeha County, is located next to another old GM&O depot in Starkville, which is now the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum.

This cache does not require any climbing. The usual warnings for poison ivy and creepy crawly things are in effect. The 2 rating is mainly due to fairly heavy tree cover messing around with the GPS signal. Fairly simple otherwise.

Note that there is a home just up the hill from this cache, so please be aware of that as you search, and please DO NOT go near that property - there is no need to in order to find this cache. Also, this one has had some issues staying in place, so please MAKE SURE to re-hide the cache as found can before you leave. Just make sure it is well-covered in its hiding spot and I think we will be OK. Happy hunting...
