Geocache Description:

For those who atteneded the Clarington Winter Thaw Event, this cache is the final hide. I decided to make it into a permanent cache.

The name comes from when I was placing the caches for the event, and there were tons of fishermen down here lining both sides of the river. Of course I got strange looks because I was the only person there not wearing rubber boots, camo jacket (why you need that to fish?) and carrying a rod and tackle box. After a while they did figure out what I was up to but they all respected my sport as I did their and we didn't bother each other. I think some of them even helped direct people to the final during the event. The trail it is found along is part of the water front trail that runs along the shore of Lake Ontario. You will see the signs marking the trail as you enter the parking lot.

The cache is a 1KG PB jar wrapped in camo tape to blend in with its surroundings. It has been washed and re-washed throughly so anyone with nut allergies should be ok. The terrain is a fairly straight forward path that could be a bit over grown in the middle of summer. A little bit of mud in the wet seasons. There is little to no bushwacking invloved so we rate it kid friendly. Parking can be found off of West Beach Rd. Please observe that this is wetlands for wildlife so there will be lots of it depending on the time of the year. In the spring please be aware of the geese that will be sitting on their nests. They are not aggressive unless you get too close but they will warn you before that happens. For the most part just leave them be and they will do the same to you. I've also seen beavers down here and there is some evidence that they are here. They usually are out around dusk. They will usually splash their tail in the water when you get near them. In the summer months the vegatation gets pretty overgrown and stinging nettles are present. Please be aware of this and come prepared. I would recommend that you don't bring dogs into this area with all the wildlife present. There is a veiwing platform which will give you a nice veiw of the whole area. Please cover the cache back up carefully. Thanks
