Geocache Description:

Rediscover Reed City by GPS

This event page may update as more details become final. Put a watch on this cache, to keep up on any changes.

Please join us again in Reed City for a fun-filled geocaching event to take place during the Great American Crossroads Celebration: A Family Festival. Meet at 11 a.m., Sunday, August 20, at the listed coordinates. We’ll be meeting under a pavilion, but seating is limited, so you may want to bring lawn chairs, if you have them. We’ll be providing hot dogs, buns, ketchup and mustard. Please bring a dish to pass, according to the schedule below. Also, bring your own tableware and non-alcoholic drinks.

For those who attended last year's event, note that this event will be in a different park, Westerberg park, about 3/4 mile to the south east of last year's event.

Plan on a fun event! The day will start with socializing while we eat. It’s your opportunity to reacquaint with friends, and meet someone that you may only know by their geo logs. Then we’ll hit the roads and trails and cash in on some local micro caches marked especially for this event. Each team will visit some micro caches set up around Reed City. We’ll tell you more about this Journey Around Reed City at the event.

Be sure to bring any travel bugs or coins you may want to trade.

Schedule

11:00 Arrive and Socialize
11:45 Potluck begins
12:30 Begin the Journey Around Reed City
2:30 Announce "winner" of Journey Around Reed City

*Note that the Journey Around Reed City is NOT a timed event. You may begin the event whenever you would like. The "winner" will be announced at 2:30.

Pot Luck:
Based on your last name, bring a dish to pass according to this schedule. Yes, we “borrowed” from the MiGO Fall Fun Day idea!
• A-F Chips or snacks
• G-L Potato, pasta or other salad
• M-R Vegetable or fruit dish
• S-Z Dessert

Because the event is held in conjunction with the Great American Crossroads Celebration, there will be lots of fun activities to choose from the whole weekend: a parade (also a pet parade!), fireworks, 5k run, museum and church tours, concerts, a non-GPS old-fashioned scavenger hunt patterned after TV's Amazing Race, this geo-event and lots more. Everything is open to everyone whether you live around Reed City or not.

Well-mannered, leashed dogs allowed if accompanied by adult • Alcohol not allowed at the facility • Free event • No need to bring items for caches

Post a note if we'll see you there!

MORE ABOUT REED CITY
Reed City is at the crossroads of US-131 and US-10 in Osceola County (between Cadillac and Big Rapids and between Ludington and Clare). It's a beautiful place with plenty of parks, campgrounds, state forest, rivers, lakes and more nearby. We’re home to a yogurt factory (yum!) and home of the late author of “The Old Rugged Cross,” the well-loved church hymn. We're also right at the crossroads of two Rails-to-Trails, the Pere Marquette and the White Pine trail. If you're a nature lover, angler, hunter, photographer, or any casual-family-fun-kind-of-person, we think you'd enjoy a visit.

CAMPING IN THE AREA
Rambadt Park is owned by the city and is in the city limits. It's right on the rails-to-trails, connects to a linear park system, and is where many of the Great American Crossroads Celebration events will take place — and a short walk/bike to the rest of the events.

There several state forest rustic camp sites in nearby Lake County and one in Osceola County. Find them on the Michigan DNR web site.
