A seven stage Multi in the Binder Park Zoo.
Cache is located in Binder Park Zoo. The main gate is at N 42* 14.817 W 085* 08.917. The zoo is open M-F 9-5, Sa & Holidays 9-6, Su 11-6. The zoo season is late April to early October, I will be disabling all zoo caches in the off season. Please stay on the trails, they will take you to where you need to go. Bushwhacking is neither encouraged nor necessary, until very near the cache. You should only need to step a few feet off to retrieve the cache. All trails in the zoo are handicap accessible, although the final cache find may not be. There is some up and down to the trail, wheelchairs are available if needed. For current information about entry fees, zoo membership reciprocity, or other zoo-specific questions, see their web site at www.binderparkzoo.org, for cache related questions, contact me! All information that you need was available at the exhibit areas when I set things up.
Total walking distance (using tram) us just under 2 miles. I think it took me a little over an hour to lay everything out, so it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours when doing the math on the go.
Good Luck!
Stage 1: Visit the Snow Leopards at their home. Find where it shows what conservation level these beautiful cats are at. How many levels does this chart show? Take that number and divide it by two. Use this number for A.
Stage 2: Next we're going to visit with the Black Bears. The bears were found orphaned in Alaska as 6 month olds, and were adopted by the zoo here. Their exhibit opened with the 2014 season. In the exhibit area, there is a sign with hints on living in bear country. Count the number of bullited hints there are. Use that number as D.
Stage 3: Ah yes, it's time for the Red Pandas. Cute little things they are, but what family DO they belong in? What other animals is the Fire Fox, as it is known in it's native country, compared to? Take the number of animals mentioned here, use it as C.
Stroll along the Avenue of Flags to the International Depot, and take the Tram up to Wild Africa for the next stage. If you’ve had your Wheaties today, there is a half mile walking trail up there as well. If you’re walking, I’ll meet you in the Zuri National Park.
Stage 4: Start down the trail that goes through the park, and enter the Ranger Station. From here, you can see many different animals wandering the savanna. Inside either of the huts, at the observation window, is a book. (Some of the books are fading. I believe all of the books which look out over the savanna have the same information on them...) What number is the Ostrich? Use this number as B.
Stage 5: The animals which will come right up to you at Twiga Overlook, the mooches, what are they? Find which number they are designated in the book here, and use that number as E. Better watch out for their tongues, did you know that they can be up to 18" long!
Stage 6: You’re almost there, I promise! Our last stop is Monkey Valley. As you read the notes around the display area, you'll find that the Colobus Monkeys usually stay fairly high in the trees. How many meters up is their usual habitat? Take the lower number, and divide it by 20. Use the one digit number you come up with as F.
Stage 7: Last place on the trail is the forest Farm. If you have chosen wisely on your safari, the cache should be close by, at N 42* 14.ABC W 085* 09.DEF. It’s in an area open to the public but slightly out of the way to allow you a little privacy to scan the swag. Please use your discretion reference muggle activity.
