Mark your calendar and make plans now to attend the September
Fall Picnic Event, sponsored by your host Phideo. The event is open
to ALL geocachers (first-timers, some timers, rookies, or veterans)
whether you hail from Maryland, Pennsylvania or Timbuktu.
The event will be held rain or shine at the Strawberry
Hill Nature Center. The time frame from 10:00 am to 12:00
noon will be devoted to meet & greet, Social business,
lunch and the usual frenzied preparations that precede a day of
caching. I would like to take this time to also introduce our host
Yvonne (Preserve Manager) who will give us a quick introduction to
all the facilities available.
The nature center is open to the public and Yvonne, has
graciously welcomed us with open arms. Parking can be found
at the above coordinates. More information about the Nature Center
can be found here Strawberry
Hill Nature Center. With over 10 miles of hiking trails, you
can view the trails
here, but Adobe Acrobat is required to view the .pdf file. You
can see some pictures I have taken whilst walking the trails
in the gallery.
Strawberry Hill Nature Center & Preserve is a private
nonprofit education and conservation institution located in the
beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Pennsylvania. Strawberry Hill’s
mission is to connect our community with the natural world by
teaching, inspiring, and promoting stewardship of the environment.
The 609-acre preserve features a variety of habitats to explore,
including wet and dry woodlands, three ponds, two pristine mountain
streams, and much more.
The picnic's format is potluck. Bring your favorite dish
to share, and cold drinks (alcohol is prohibited). The following
items will be provided by the hosts- plastic ware, paper ware,
coolers, water, charcoal, extra grilles and all- purpose
condiments. More information on the eating venue will be posted as
the need is discovered. There is a BBQ grill already available in
the pavilion.
I have laid out a number of new caches (9) throughout the
trails of the Nature Center and all the information (and
coordinates) can be obtained at the pavilion where I will have a
work station setup to u/l cache information to your Magellan GPSrs
utilizing GSAK or Geocaching Manger. If someone has a Garmin cable
we could share please bring it.
Be sure to drop by the work station in the pavilion. Here you
will find all the cache listings as well as a map of the trails
detailing cache locations, so you can plan your hikes.
