Geocache Description:

This multi cache consists of five virtual caches leading to a small cache with a walk of 1.5 - 2miles, there and back, depending on your return route, on mostly paved paths although the last VC and the final cache are on top of a small but steep grassy hill.

At the co-ordinates posted above there are a set of gates. There should be ample roadside parking nearby. Before taking the path through the gates note the building to the right. This ‘castle’ once bore the sign of the Smelters Arms but is now privately owned. Note the numbers of the three flats in order.

A = the 1st number + 2nd number x 3rd number

B = the 2nd number

C =the 2nd number x 3rd number + 1st number

D = the 3rd number + 2nd number + 1st number

Now go to N51 3A.BBC W003 5D.BBA. How many Windows, Doors and Pillars does this ‘stronghold’ have?

E = P’s – (D’s/2)

F = D’s/2

G = W’s – (D’s/2)

H = D’s

J = W’s – D’s

K = W’s + D’s – P’s

Now go to N51 3E.FGH W003 5J.HKK There is an 11 digit number here on a large board.

L = the 7th number +8th number

M = the 6th number + 7th number

N = the 7th number – 2nd number

P = the 10th number – 9th number

Q = the 5th number + 9th number

R = the 8th number

Now go to N51 3L.MNP W003 5Q.RPN Walk down the road away from the board and turn right at the junction and up the hill and down the other side rather than down to the left. Note the number of this ‘counterfeit castle’

S = the 2nd number

T = the 3rd number

U = the 6th number – 1st number

V = the 2nd number / 3

W = the 1st number – 1

X = the (6th number / 3) +1

Now go to N 51 3S.TUV W003 5W.VXV Head up the road with the same name as this 'counterfeit castle' which is opposite then when you reach what appears to be a dead end look right and there is a small path up over the bank. Honest! Directly opposite the driveway. Note the number of protruding horizontal black stripes on this ‘counterfeit castle’. (Just count the stripes on the one tower and don't include the top level as it is not protruding)

Y = Number of stripes – 3

Z = Number of stripes – 1

The cache is hidden at N51 3A.YXV W003 5J.(Z+1)YZ. If you are still confused by the title of the cache after reaching the final VC then all is revealed on the first page of the log book inside the cache. Growing up not far from this spot I was always intrigued by this place so felt it was a fitting place for a cache. Hopefully its worth the journey for others too. Feel free to take any of the books in the cache but if you take the last one please let me know in your log so that I can restock the ‘library’. Cheers. The nicest way to return to the start is probably to retrace your steps but a quicker route can be found along the main road if you first go to the signpost visible from the cache at N51 3A.TGM W003 5J.URV and from there to the road and up the hill to the starting point.
