"Indiana Spirit
Quest"
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries
built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just a year and a half, the quest has
grown to over three hundred eighty caches hidden in thirty-eight
Indiana counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown
to twenty-five cacher teams, most of which of which are comprised
of Dogs and their Humans.
Over 1,000 cacher teams have logged over
13,800 ISQ finds.

Foster Cemetery is located in Galena
Township, and was established in 1837 on land owned by Scipha and
Isabelle Foster and was known as the Foster Burial Ground. The
cemetery was later expanded with purchases of additional parcels of
land from the Fosters. The Foster Cemetery Association of Galena
Township was incorporated September, 1888.

Family relationships are found to
exist for the majority of the burials in Foster cemetery. This is
an active cemetery, but even today the majority of the burials here
are found to be descendants of the earliest families in the
township. Foster is also the final resting place of many of our
Nation's veterans. There are veterans of the War of 1812, the Civil
War, W.W.I, W.W.II, and the Korean War. Among these are two young
men who died in the Civil War when they were only 16 years of
age.

You will also find Emery and William
Otwell, Father and son, who both served in the Civil War. Emery
would have been in his early 40's, William in his late teens. In
February of 1872, just a few years after the war, illness claimed
the lives of Emery and William, their deaths occurring just 6 days
of one another.

As with most of the early
cemeteries, we also find many infants and children buried here. One
family lost an 8 year old daughter on April 1, 1863 and then, just
5 days later, they suffered the loss of a 6 year old daughter and 9
year old son. Also buried here is a man who died in a sawmill
accident, and a 76-year old man who died after being attacked by a
bull.
The cache container is a waterproof,
matchstick container. Well, I take that back, now it's a camo'd
pill bottle.
Please leave it at least as well concealed,
if not better, than you found it.
FIND
LOGS ON THIS CACHE THAT INDICATE NIGHT CACHING WILL BE DELETED
WITHOUT NOTICE!
If you find fallen or worn US flags at
the graves of veterans, please take a moment to upright or replace
them. Dispose of worn US flags in a respectable manner. As always,
no ISQ searching after dusk, and cache in, trash out. God Bless our
troops and veterans.
DESPITE WHAT SOME NON-ISQ CEMETERY
CACHE PAGES MAY SAY, YOU MAYBE SUBJECT TO ARREST IF FOUND IN A
CEMETERY AT NIGHT IN INDIANA IN MOST ALL
JURISDICTIONS.
