This is Tunnel 3 in a series of three tunnels. This third one was called "Scovel Johnson" on August 1, 2015. He is best known for the construction of the Needles Highway. Johnson also made preliminary surveys for the Iron Mountain Road, and contributed to the layout of the Sylvan Lake area. These tunnels are found on Iron Mountain Road - US16A. This road may be closed for parts of the winter.
There is parking next to the tunnel. Depending on which direction you are coming from, you will be able to see Mt. Rushmore through the tunnel. The cache is a short distance from the parking area. Be careful of muggles as they like to take pictures of Mt. Rushmore just like we did. Please hide cache well after finding it! Good luck caching!
