On 13th May 1787, 11 ships set sail from Portsmouth England, under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip, for the 'lands beyond the seas' - Australia, stopping at Tenerife, Rio de Janeiro and Cape Town, where food supplies were replenished. The fleet arrived at Botany Bay between 18th and 20th January 1788. However, this area was deemed to be unsuitable for settlement so they moved north arriving at Port Jackson on the Australian East coast on 26 January 1788.
The fleet of ships consisted of the warships HMS Sirius (flag ship), HMS Supply; the convict transports Alexander, Charlotte, Friendship, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales, Scarborough; and the supply ships Borrowdale, Fishburn, and Golden Grove.
This fleet of ships was known as the “First Fleet” and carried the people who set up the township of Sydney and started the “white settlement” of Eastern Australia. The fleet arrived with a total of 736 convicts (548 male, 188 female), 550 officers/marines/ship crew and their families.
Please ensure cache is retuned to the correct place, it has suffered massive cache creep in the past.
The cache is about 1 metre from the edge of the garden bed. There is no need to trample any plants.
