Sentiero “00” Passo della Colla – Passo del Giogo
La difesa preparata dall’esercito tedesco nel 1944 sulla linea degli Appennini si chiamava Linea Gotica. Il passo della Futa, sulla statale 65 che da Firenze porta a Bologna, era il luogo in cui gli ingegneri della Todt che avevano progettato la Linea Gotica si aspettavano l’attacco alleato. Circa 11 km più ad est si trovava il passo del Giogo, sulla strada che portava da Firenze a Firenzuola e da qui ad Imola. Anche questo passo era ben difeso da una catena di postazioni sistemate sui monti, però i tedeschi erano convinti di un attacco sulla Futa e avevano scartato la possibilità di un attacco al passo del Giogo.
Di fronte alla 5a armata del Generale Clark, a est del passo della Futa, vi era la divisione dell'ala destra della 10a armata di Vietinghoff e la 14a armata di Lemelsen che era composta da molti ragazzi che non avevano ancora sparato un colpo in un'azione di guerra.
Clark invece attaccò il 10 settembre il passo del Giogo da est, dove il terreno era più difficile, dirigendosi su Monte Prefetto e Monte Pratone, quasi al Passo della Colla di Casaglia mentre il 4° corpo d'armata americano era schierato sulla sinistra, per mantenere la pressione sul fianco.
Un furibondo, cruento combattimento si protrasse dalla mezzanotte del 12 settembre alla sera del 14, e ricevette un'immediata dimostrazione del fermo proposito che animava i tedeschi, risoluti a non cedere la posizione. Gli americani subirono perdite ingenti sotto il tiro delle mitragliatrici e dei fucilieri appostati fra i massi e i cespugli di Monte Altuzzo e all'alba del 15 il crinale dell'altura era ancora saldamente tenuto dal 12° reggimento paracadutisti.
Anche i tedeschi avevano subito forti perdite, i rinforzi dei granatieri di Lehr arrivarono in ritardo e all’alba del 17 settembre gli americani occuparono Monte Altuzzo e presero il Passo del Giogo: la Linea Gotica era stata sfondata.
Alla fine della giornata quello che si presentava agli occhi dei presenti aveva l’aspetto di una carneficina: centinaia di morti e feriti da entramebe le parti: ragazzi tedeschi, inglesi, neozelandesi, lituani, italiani, indiani e americani scaraventati su queste pietre dell’Appennino dalla bestialità e dalla follia umana.
Questa è una cache contro la guerra, contro tutte le guerre, è posta sul sentiero “00” del C.A.I. che ripercorre la Linea Gotica. Oggi è una passeggiata piacevole sul crinale d’Appennino, la natura ha rimarginato le ferite che l’uomo le ha inferto, riappropriandosi di quello che da sempre era suo, ma nel 1944 la musica era diversa, una musica che non vogliamo sentire mai più.

Path “00” Colla Pass - Giogo Pass
The defense prepared from the German army in 1944 on the line of the Appennines was called Gothic Line. The pass of La Futa, on the N.R. 65 that goes from Florence to Bologna, was the place in which the engineers of Todt, who planned the Gothic Line, expected the allies attack. Approximately 11 km more to east was the pass of Giogo, on the road going from Florence to Firenzuola and after to Imola. Also this pass was defended from a chain of emplacements arranged on mounts, but the Germans were convinced of an attack on the Futa and had discarded the possibility of an attack to the Giogo.
In front of the 5th army of General Clark, at east of the pass of the Futa, there was the division of the right wing of the 10th army of Vietinghoff and the 14th army of Lemelsen that was composed by many boys who had not still fired a shot in an action of war.
Clark instead attacked on the 10th september the pass of the Giogo from east, where the land was more difficult, heading on Mount Prefetto and Monte Pratone, nearly to the Pass of the Colla di Casaglia, while the 4th American army corps was placed on the left, in order to maintain under pressure that side.
A furious heavy combat continued from the midnight of the 12th september to the evening of the 14th, and it was immediatly evident the firm purpose that animated the Germans, firmed not to yield the position. The Americans endured huge losses under the shooting of the machine-guns and of the riflemen lain in wait for between the stones and the bushes of Altuzzo Mount and at the down of the 15th the summit of the height was still held from 12th german regiment of parachutists.
Also the Germans had endured strong losses, the reinforces of the grenadiers of Lehr arrived in delay and at the the dawn of 17th september the Americans occupied Altuzzo Mount and took the Pass of the Giogo: the Gothic Line had been smashed in.
At the end of the day, the scenery shown under the eyes of the withness had the aspect of a slaughter: hundreds of dieds and hurted from both parts: Germans, English, New Zealanders, Lithuanians, Italians, Indians and Americans boys thrown on these stones of Appennini from the bestiality and the human madness.
This is a cache against the war, against all the wars, it is placed on the path “00” running over the Gothic Line. Nowadays is a pleasant walk on the top of Appennini, the nature has recovered the hurts gived by the Man, having back what was of its property forever, but in 1944 the music was different, a music that we do not want to hear. Never more.

Weg "00" Passo della Colla - Passo del Giogo
Die vorbereitete Verteidigung der deutschen Armee 1944 auf der Linie des Appennins wurde Gotenstellung genannt. Der Passo della Futa, auf der Staatsstrasse 65 die von Florenz nach Bologna fuehrt, war der Schauplatz an dem die Ingenieure des Todt, die die Gotenstellung geplant hatten, den Angriff der Allierten erwarteten. Ungefähr 11 Kilometer oestlich davon befindet sich der Passo del Giogo an der Straße von Florenz ueber Firenzuola nach Imola. Auch dieser Pass wurde gut von einer Kette von Stellungen verteidigt, die sich auf Bergen befanden, aber die Deutschen waren von einem Angriff auf den Futa überzeugt und hatten die Möglichkeit eines Angriffs auf den Passo del Giogo verworfen.
Gegenueber der 5. Armee des General Clark, östlich vom Passo della Futa, stand eine Division des rechten Fluegels den 10. Armee von Vietinghoff und die 4.Armee von Lemelsen, welche aus vielen Jungen bestand, die noch nie einen Schuss im Krieg getaetigt hatten. Clark hingegen griff am 10. September den Passo del Giogo von Osten an, in Richtung Monte Prefetto und Monte Pretone, wo das Gelaende schwieriger war, fast am Passo della Colla di Casaglia, waehrend das 4. merikanische Armeekorps links stationiert war, um den Druck auf die Flanke beizubehalten. Ein furioser Kampf zog sich von Mitternacht des 12.Septembers bis zum Abend des 14., und gab eine sofortige Demonstration empfangen einer sofortigen Demonstration des eisernen Willens der Deutschen, die Stellung zu halten. Die Amerikaner erlitten sehr große Verluste unter Maschinengewehren und Scharfschuetzen, welche zwischen den Felsbloecken und Bueschen des Monte Altuzzo stationiert waren, und in der Daemmerung des 15.September war die Anhoehe noch in festen Handen des 12. Was sich am Ende des Tages den Augen der Anwesenden praesentierte, war ein Gemetzel: Hunderte von Toten und Verletzten beider Seiten:gestorbene und verletzte Hunderte von entramebe die Teile: Deutsche, englische, neuseelaendische, lettische, italienische, indische und amerikanische Jungen, geopfert auf den Steinen des Apennin durch die Bestialitaet und von der menschlichen Verrücktheit.
Dies ist ein Cache gegen den Krieg, gegen alle Kriege, er liegt am Weg "00" des C.A.I., der ueber die Gotenstellung fuehrt. Heute ist es ein angenehmer Weg auf dem Grat des Appennin, die Natur hat die Wunden geheilt , die der Mensch ihr zugefuegt hat, und sich zurueckgeholt, was immer ihr gehoerte, aber 1944 erklang eine andere Musik, eine Musik, die wir nie mehr zu hoeren wünschen.
